Berlin to the Czech Republic
Nigel and Jack have moved on from Berlin and made it to the Czech Republic! You can read their latest update below.
"We left Berlin a week ago with Tom joining us for a couple of days and leading us out of the city. We couldn't leave until I had my new wheel checked, trued and tightened. I was at the bike shop before it opened but they weren't able to fish it until 12.30.
So we left in the afternoon in glorious sunshine and had a swim at a lake en route to our campsite about 35 miles out of Berlin. It was a delightful woodland site by its own lake. We cooked a cracking meal in the dark before sitting around a fire with the camp owners, sharing a beer and talking about Brexit and the difficult political situation in Turkey!
Tom had to leave the next day because of a serious knee problem and we carried on to the town of Lubbenau. We have made erratic progress and had mixed weather since then. Eventually reaching the Polish border last Thursday at the town of Görlitz we stayed there a day to do some washing, bike fettling and downloading maps when we could access WiFi. We have abandoned using Osmington and bought KOMOOTK, a specific cycling digital mapping system. Jack has been mastering that in the last few days.
We left Görlitz and Germany on Saturday, briefly passing through a bit of Poland before entering the Czech Republic. We have really enjoyed the variety of landscape here. We are more than halfway across the Czech Republic and have arrived at campsites in the rain each evening. Got very wet today but looking forward to better weather and approaching the Slovakian border tomorrow. We also passed the thousand mile mark today! Only about 1,300 more to go!!! "
