Nigel's Big Cycle Update!
Nigel Wild, a KeyRing support worker in Newcastle, is cycling from his home to Asia and raising money for our Hardship Fund. Here is the latest update from his travels.
"We arrived from the ferry after a calm crossing and had a sunny ride on excellent cycle tracks to Amsterdam. We ended up having quite a long ride to a lovely site near Utrecht. The following day was also sunny and warm and we thought we would have an easy ride to Lochem. It turned out to be further and more challenging! Especially as we had an evening of food and music to travel to with our friend Rianne and her adult daughter Mariza. We had to dash to get there on time but then the lady from Google maps turned the last 11 kilometres into a 30k ordeal. We arrived, changed and got to the event on time in a delightful woodland setting with lovely food and rousing music by an enormous band mainly dressed in pink and green!
We have had device charging issues as well as continuing mapping difficulties. I also had a spoke break on our way to Munster on Saturday and I had to wait until Monday to get a replacement wheel. That delay and the tortuous route of the Deutsche R1 have left us with more than 100 miles a day to do for the next 3 days to make our arranged time to meet my brother in law Tom who is an architect in Berlin and our plan is to cycle into Poland together for a few days. We will try but yesterday was very hot and we did make great progress. It's lovely again today and we must get on R1. Nigel."
