The Community Support Initiative helps you build your independence and connect with your local area.
You might need a bit of help when something unexpected comes up or to plan for a change. Or you might need a bit of help with filling out benefit forms or applying for a job.
Support is designed to help you reach a particular goal and get long term benefit. Your support worker will chat with you about how long your support will be and how often you will see them. One you’ve achieved your goal you will leave the service. But don’t worry, you can come back to as often as you need.
Some of the things we’ve helped people with are:
Meet up As part of your support you’ll be invited to the Community Support hub. It’s open to anyone and you can pop in to meet our team. You’ll also be able to get support from Citizen’s Advice, Mind and Warm Wales, Every Monday Morning (9-12) at Rivertown Church, Shotton, CH5 1BX.
If you or someone you know would benefit from this service, get in touch. If we cannot help you we will be able to point you in the direction of a local organisation who can.

Leigh wanted to travel independently.
Leigh wanted to explore and has an appetite for adventure. They also wanted to get involved in project search. Project Search is a transition to work programme committed to transforming the lives of young adults with a learning disability and autism or both.
They’d never used public transport so wanted to start there.
Firstly, we got to know and trust each other. Then together we looked at how to book trains and explored local train services. Leigh recently went on a train trip on their own, describing it as the best day ever.
They are now ready for their next adventure and we wish them lots of luck.
Janine needed some support with bereavement.
Janine and her husband had a lifetime of interesting stories and adventures to share. They came to us for support with a benefit check. Their health was not great and things had become difficult.
We helped with the paperwork and Janine started to connect with other KeyRing Members. Sadly her husband passed away shortly after her support had begun. So Janine also asked us to help her get some bereavement support and ongoing support with her tenancy.
She says: 'I don’t know where I would be if it wasn’t for KeyRing, you have helped me more than words can explain, I'm truly grateful’.

Currently we have 38 Members accessing support across the county of Flintshire. Members who are being supported are required to have a tenancy related support need and we are funded by Supporting People.
We have 3 support workers who work across the county offering weekly support visits and we have a hub which is based in Deeside. Members meet on a Tuesday from 9.30 am to 12 noon in Libby’s Café, CAB building, Connah’s Quay.
Referrals go to the single pathway spreferrals@flintshire.gov.uk and these can be from social workers, housing officers, self-referrals etc.
You can speak with us about all of the different ways of accessing and funding our support including using a personal budget (direct payment or individual service fund) or through self funding.
