KeyRing Living Support Networks

KeyRing is committed to reducing the environmental impact of its activities and contributing to the UK’s Net Zero ambitions. As a values led organisation supporting people in their communities, we recognise our responsibility to act sustainably and to embed environmentally responsible practice into how we work.

Our approach to carbon reduction focuses on practical, proportionate actions that reduce emissions while supporting inclusive, community-based services. This includes:

• Reducing business travel through remote and hybrid working, shared office spaces, and the use of local community venues
• Actively encouraging walking, cycling and public transport, including reimbursement of cycling expenses
• Minimising energy use through digital working, reduced printing, and responsible use of equipment and data minimisation policies
• The proportionate use of AI and other data technologies to maximise their benefits whilst minimising the emissions and carbon impact
• Applying reduce–reuse–recycle principles across offices and services, including responsible disposal of IT and electrical equipment
• Consistently raising awareness throughout the workforce on their carbon impact during their working day, and how to minimise this
• Promoting environmental awareness and sustainable behaviours among staff, volunteers, trustees and Members.

Environmental responsibility is embedded within KeyRing’s wider policies and service delivery model, and we continue to review opportunities to further reduce emissions in a way that is realistic, measurable and aligned with our charitable purpose.

KeyRing is committed to transparency and continuous improvement and will develop its carbon reporting and reduction activity in line with commissioning requirements and UK government guidance as these become proportionate and relevant to our organisation.

Actions 2026/27

1. We will monitor where carbon impact is highest:

• Data usage and storage
• Expenses incurred by public transport/cycling against mileage expenses

to create a Key Performance Indicator to monitor progress on reducing carbon impact.

2. We will deliver a campaign with people we support, volunteers and staff to develop skills and knowledge in addressing personal and organisational Net Zero goals.
